While ETFs, open-ended mutual funds and SMAs continue to dominate the advisor channel, Buchanan says more and more RIAs are starting to adopt closed-end strategies. The closed-end structure offers the potential for leverage in a low rate environment, discounts on real assets, and enhanced income.
Buchanan explains that closed-end funds can be allocated to a core-satellite strategy, and are ideal for retirees looking for supplemental income.
