Cammie Doder, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for Aspiriant, joined Julie Cooling, Founder and CEO of RIA Channel, to discuss the benefits of having open conversations about money.
Along with her co-host, Sandi Bragar, Doder hosts “Money Tales: The Aspiriant Podcast.” She sees the podcast as a way to connect with clients and future clients, hoping that storytelling can help us all have better conversations about money. By showing how comfortable and fun it can be to talk about money, she hopes to break down the taboo of money conversations. Doder finds that the most challenging topic to discuss is the mistakes that have been made with money. Discussing mistakes can relieve stress when we realize that we all make mistakes and we can learn from them. Doder notes that her podcast guests enjoy the conversation so much that they refer others to be guests on the show.
As CMO, Doder seeks to bring Aspiriant to life as an organization, which means bringing a personal touch. By introducing members of the Aspiriant team as people, it is hoped that clients can make a personal connection and advisors can meet clients where they are and solve their challenges. Because people are all unique, they can have very different investment needs than institutions and each other. Clients want to work with a firm that offers a diversity of thought and a diversity of advisors.
Investors need to plan for the succession of their business, wealth, stewardship, and family values. While many still view money conversations as taboo, discussing finances with your children and encouraging financial literacy is important. Conversations should engage the next generation, as the significant wealth of families may not be a secret but may be disclosed online, where kids can find it in a Google search.
