Anthony Tursich, Co-Portfolio Manager, Calamos Investments, joined Julie Cooling, Founder and CEO of RIA Channel, to discuss the Calamos Antetokounmpo Global Sustainable Equities ETF (SROI).
There are three flavors of ESG investing: impact investing, values-based investing, and ESG integration. Impact investing seeks to further a social or environmental income. Investors implementing screened or values-based investing eliminate companies from their portfolios that do not align with their values. Both impact and values-based investing have a primary focus on the ESG characteristics of the portfolio and rank returns as a secondary objective. ESG integration seeks to generate strong performance while using ESG characteristics to reduce portfolio risk.
Calamos Investments has entered a joint venture with NBA All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo to offer a new ETF investing in global sustainable equities. Antetokounmpo will help to determine the philanthropic causes, such as financial inclusion, that will benefit from the donation of 10% of the joint-venture profits.
While some investment firms use third-party ESG rankings to assist in portfolio construction, the investment process for the SROI ETF evaluates material non-financial information to make their own decisions regarding portfolio companies and ESG characteristics. Calamos seeks to earn strong returns by investing in global leaders that consistently generate shareholder value while performing as good corporate citizens.
